Doug has practiced his portrait and figurative art since he was a curious kid with pencil and water colors. He was the “artist kid” in grammar school. He now paints mainly in oil, combining water color techniques. Doug continues to be a spectator of people, observing their unique character, capturing a gesture or expression which he attempts to portray into his artistic style.
Doug is self taught benefitting from a progression of class work at Art Center - College of Design, Art Academy, Community Colleges and Scottsdale Artist School. He has studied and learned from the works of the old masters, Sargent, Nicolai Fechin, Ilya Repin, as well as many present day active artists and art teachers.
Doug paints daily at his Burlingame studio and with other struggling artists throughout the San Francisco art community. Doug will attend the Figurative Art event (FACE) in Miami, November 2018 to further his learning experience.
